Key Points Raised |
Decision/Action |
|
Session 1 Slideshow |
· The group reviewed the slideshow for session 1 since the last meeting’s revisions. A few points:
o We may need to briefly discuss the topic of health disparities in addition to showing slides with statistics
o Important to thoroughly explain tumor formation at the cellular level. Jumping from cell mutation to mass forming may confuse people without further explanation.
o Do not abbreviate words on slides
o Include “heredity” and “family history” in the glossary |
Pat will make the edits. Pat and Andrea will be presenting this at the Summit and will meet to go through the timing of the presentation.
Pat and Andrea will also draft the course objectives. |
|
Course logistics |
· Course packets – are being assembled at MDH. We have ordered 75 binders but will need more. We will plan for 100 participants. We should arrange for note cards to be in the packets for audience questions.
· Room logistics – we are in need of room monitors for each of the sessions (Pat and Andrea can serve as 2 monitors for sessions 2 and 3, but we need some for session 1 and may need up to 4 monitors for each session if we have a big group). We also need to have floating mics (2) for audience questions.
· Still need a person to work on compiling the glossary and resource list for the participant binders.
· The group discussed the course certificate and decided that we can use an existing template that includes the course title, trainer information, and course objectives. There was a question about CEUs and CHES – CHWs cannot get CEUs (no board to approve). |
Liz and Pat will make sure materials are ordered for the binders and will arrange room logistics for the day of the Summit.
Anne W. will check with Missy Manderfeld (admin assistant) to see if she can assist with compiling the resource list and the glossary.
Liz M will also check on availability of CEUs and CHES for the cancer course. |
|
Financing and Publicity |
We have only receive 3 applications for travel scholarships (2 of which are outside the Metro). We may need to do a targeted 2nd appeal to those registered for the course who qualify to encourage them to apply for the scholarships. |
Liz will get a list of registrants to Andrea and Andrea will re-send the scholarship application information. |
|
Evaluation |
Andrea drafted 2 types of evaluation for the course participants; a satisfaction evaluation and a pre-post knowledge self assessment. The aim of the satisfaction survey is to determine if the course was useful, presented in an effective manner, held interest, and to gather suggestions for improvement. This information will be shared with the Cancer Alliance Steering Committee as well as the HEIP Curriculum Committee who will be using this information to create the disease specific curriculum. The group also suggested it would be important to conduct a 3 or 6 month follow up evaluation with participants to see if they are still using what they have learned. Follow ups would be sent to the CHW and their supervisor along with an incentive to participate and information about joining the Cancer Alliance if not already members.
The pre-post assessment will be for participants to gauge their knowledge at the beginning and end of the course. The assessment is 13 T/F questions based on information presented throughout the day. It is for their own use and will not be turned in. |
Liz will connect the group with a member of the MCA Evaluation committee to consult on questions we could use to determine participant expectations (pre and post) of the course.
Andrea will continue to modify the evaluation drafts. |
