American Cancer Society’s 12 Healthy Holiday Tips
Reduce cancer risk while supporting the American Cancer Society
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – DEC. 10, 2007 – As Minnesotans get ready for the holiday season, it’s just as important to plan for a healthy life as it is to make menus or gift lists during the holiday season. The American Cancer Society in Minnesota has released its second annual list of 12 practical tips to reduce the risk of being diagnosed with cancer while getting involved with and supporting the organization.
12 Days of Working Toward a Cancer-Free New Year
1. Haven’t quit smoking yet? Make a plan. Set a date. Ask for help from the American Cancer Society, your doctor or insurance company.
2. Visit a Minnesota restaurant or bar. Let them know you appreciate the totally smoke-free environment.
3. Make an appointment with your doctor for your yearly physical.
4. Mark your calendar and set a date for cancer screening tests: breast, cervical. prostate and or/colon.
5. Pay close attention to your body and talk to your doctor about any changes that may occur. It's better to have something checked out than ignored!
6. Maintain a healthy weight. Take part in the American Cancer Society “Eat Right Challenge” for healthier eating habits.
7. Limit alcohol consumption and exercise regularly.
8. Looking for an unusual holiday gift? Try our new Eat-Right Cookbook. Proceeds go to help support American Cancer Society programs and services.
9. Maximize tax savings by making a year-end charitable donation to the American Cancer Society.
10. Place www.cancer.org in your favorites or home page to keep up on all the latest information.
11. Call 1-800-227-2345 for information or services if you or someone you know has cancer.
12. Give a 2008 Midwest Golf Pass for a holiday gift. Funds help support American Cancer Society research, advocacy, education and services. Buy three Golf Passes and get the fourth one free.
Then enjoy the new year with a plan for a healthy life!
