Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening - VA Medical Center

This project is funded by the VA Health Service Research and Development through December, 2007.  Its goal is to determine patient attitudes about CRC screening.  It started with a pilot study at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center to validate measures for survey questionnaire regarding race and gender.  This study had 700 respondents and found that females were slightly more resistant to endoscopy screening than were men, but were more likely to do FOBT screening.  Data analysis is forthcoming, and although this began as a pilot study for national project, data from this study are being analyzed for insights into screening barriers.

In January, this questionnaire will be administered at 24 randomly selected VA facilities with the intention of measuring racial differences regarding barriers to CRC screening.
