Early Detection of Breast & Cervical Cancer - Minnesota Department of Health

Consistent with its mission to address racial/ethnic health disparities in Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Health – Office of Minority and Multicultural Health manages the Eliminating Health Disparities Initiative (EHDI) grants. EHDI has funded more than 50 community-based organizations and tribal nations since 2002.

Six community-based organizations have been working with American Indians, African African/Americans, Asians, and Latinos to address breast and cervical cancer screening and health care access issues.  These organizations are:

  • Bois Forte Reservation
  • Carondelet LifeCare Ministries
  • Centra Campesino
  • Indian Board of Minneapolis
  • Minnesota International Health Volunteers and
  • Vietnamese Social Services of Minnesota

Each of these organizations utilizes its own cultural strengths to design programs promoting breast and cervical cancer screening and to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services for women who are uninsured, underinsured and are otherwise hard to reach.
