1.                   Welcome/Introductions:  Fikru Eticha is new member from the East African Collation HIV Program joining us to learn more about cancer education out reach. Heidi Martin is no longer with Digene, the team agreed to contact her replacement  Amy Halstead amy.halsstead@digene.com  phone (847) 226-1175

2.                   Spanish Tool Kit:  Gay Lyn and Emily will be meeting in Feb to review the tool kit one more time to finalize version.  Then looking for funding to replicate 20 kits

3.                   Cervical Cancer Screening Card:  Almost perfect, but is ready to print.  Makeisha will contact Karent to add “a” after Avoid -  Pap smear’.  Janet will contact Karen for printing instructions.  There will be 100 cards print by next meeting and be given to all members for testing.

4.        Three Rivers Screening Project:  Makeisha reported after meeting with Three Rivers Pathology and St. Paul Public Health results:                                                          Date: Possible Friday afternoon, Tuesday or Thursday morning. Looking at dates btw 4/14-25/08 at St. Paul Ramsey Public Health.  Will offer CBEs and Pap Smears to 15-20 pre-registered people with the possibility of walk-ins, included education on breast/cervical and self-breast examine.    This event will be between 3-4 hrs. 20 mins/patient, schedule patients every 15 mins.  2 Clinicians which will equals 6 patients per hour. Also will need a minimum of 8 volunteers for helping with filling out forms, education, and welcoming. Volunteers will be responsible for helping patients to fill out health history survey and give breast/cervical/self-breast examine education. We’ll also conduct a mini training for volunteer prior to event. 1-2 Volunteers responsible for welcoming, food, and misc. task.  ACS will do intake screening form including insurance questions. 

Cost: We about $2500 total cost of the event with follow-up care, transportation, incentives, host facility fees, and food.

Challenges:  Very limited Space.  Lost of funding for follow-up care- use dollar from  U of M Cancer Center  to supplement for food cost.  Tracking.  Follow up care.

Suggestions from team: to check with other St. Paul clinics for donation of services.  Kristin will check with PPH medical director for her volunteer at Region.  Ask Marva for connection of the MOCC group for funding. Also talking to the colorectal free screening group for ideas. There may be another meeting to finalize.

 

5.                   2008 Cancer Summit:  Liz updated on Marching Toward Cancer Prevention at Mayo March 27-29.  She also explained the Cancer Summit as an opportunity for projects to show case the  work being done, to determine what successful activities can be duplicated or expanded.  Marie might like to present on how a  good partnership between organizations results in a successful out reach program.  It would potentially be a good place for the team to market the cervical cancer tool kit cards.  Also it is a place to problem solving on how to get more people involve in finding small funding like what Makeisha is facing. 

6.                   Develop the 2008 Work Plan:

a.       Scheduling regular review of printed materials:  June is a good time to review materials.

b.       Organizing educational event or training:  Invite both Christine Baze and Don Nickels for an educational and entertaining/story telling event (can be a fund raising) that opens to the public, community health worker net work, clinic educator and administrator.  This can be a place for the cervical cancer cards distributing. Check with Marva for advice about MOCC for hosting the event.  Allow 6 to 6 weeks for planning. 

7.                   Next Meeting:  February 26, 2008, 10:00 to 12:00.  Small Folk room, Snelling Office Park
