Key Points Raised |
Decision/Action |
|
Understanding Cancer slideshow |
Review of compilation of slides from NCI Understanding Cancer PPT is delayed until we get more details on how we are able to use the slides from Lisa Stevens. |
Andrea/Pat will pull slides together for review at the next meeting. |
|
Part 2 Speakers |
Still need a lung cancer speaker. Mark Manley from BCBS was suggested.
Each speaker will have approx. 20 minutes to speak and should cover the following points in the context of the cancers they are covering:
What it is and what it is not
Risk factors
Screening
Prevention
Treatment basics
The group agreed that this session should allow for all presentations to be given then take questions at the end. |
Megersa K. will be following up with Lung cancer speaker contacts
Andrea and Pat will provide speakers with the outline they should follow. |
|
Part 3 - Moderator and panel |
The panel discussion should focus on introducing the team of health care professionals encountered by the client during the "Cancer Experience." Reona from WCRC has been developing a list of the oncology team members for a client workbook that will serve as a basis for drawing in panel participants. Some representatives to include are:
A Hospice representative
A Heme/Oncology Social Worker or a Nurse Coordinator
The panel should be limited to 4 members.
The group also discussed possible moderators. The decision about who should moderate was based on having someone with good moderation skills over specialized knowledge moderate the session.
Pat mentioned that Jane Korn would like to provide attendees with a resource binder to include:
Outline and overview of course
PPTs of the presenters
Glossary of terms
Resource list - including resources available in multiple languages (e.g. - NCI, CCHP) |
Elizabeth A will contact Ann O'Fallon as a potential moderator
Anne W. will contact HCMC for a Heme/Onc SW or Care Coordinator for the panel
Pat and Jean will contact Hospice
Pat will contact DeAnna F. about another panelist |
|
Financing and Publicity |
Pat talked with Jane Korn and found out there may be around $5,000 for the scholarships (dependent on grant funds). Criteria for the scholarships were determined. They will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. Priority will be given to CHWs outside the TC Metro. The scholarship application was reviewed - minor revisions to be made. The application, cover letter and registration information will go out in 2 weeks. The deadline for turning in the scholarships will be March 20.
Payment for the scholarships will have to be reimbursed if we cannot find an agency to house the money. Some potential ideas of alternate agencies were discussed (Mayo, ACS, Hennepin Cty.). |
Andrea will revise the application, draft the cover letter, and send this to the group for final comments.
Megersa will get the final brochure to Andrea and Pat to include with the scholarship information.
Anne W. will publicize with the CHW Policy Council, and FQHCs
Pat will talk with Nila G. about publicizing with EHDI grantees, Office of Rural Health, and HIS via DeAnna F. |
