Access to Information Task Force Meeting Summary

SUMMARY

  • Resource screening process was discussed and is moving forward to be presented to the Steering Committee on April 11.
  • The categories of Complimentary Care, Spiritual Care, and Palliative Care will be added to the web site.
  • The category of Legal will be deleted and its subcategory of Legal Assistance – Free will be listed as the main category.
  • Urban Planet will be commissioned to create a new statewide-listing capability to the web site.

Define "Resource"

·         The need for a policy around what resources should be added and left out was discussed.

·         Suggested parameters included: No individuals, Reputable, Able to be screened by the BBB, Should submit references, Should be referred, Should submit a business summary explaining why a cancer patient or care giver would look for their resource.

 

·         Anna will request and review ACS, Iowa, Mayo and any other applicable screening processes.

·         Anna will draft a policy for our web site and will send to all TF members for approval.

·         The final policy will be presented to the SC for approval on April 11.

What categories should be added to the web site?

·         Several possible new categories were discussed including Complementary Care, Alternative, Holistic, Spiritual, Body, Prevention, Early Detection, and Palliative Care.

·         The categories and definitions of Complementary Care and Alternative Medicine were discussed in depth.

·         Breaking out the category of Palliative Care as its own subcategory under the main category of Hospice and Palliative Care was discussed.

·         Adding Early Detection and Prevention resource categories was discussed. Although these are important resources, we do not currently have the resources to devote to this new, large category.

·         The categories of Complimentary Care, Spiritual Care, and Palliative Care will be added to the web site.

·         Anna will obtain list of Palliative resources from Michele Fedderly.

·         Early Detection and Prevention will be added in Phase II of the web site.

Should any categories be deleted from the web site?

·         When a subcategory exactly matches its heading category, should that subcategory exist? Examples included Hospice and Palliative Care: Hospice and Legal: Legal Assistance – Free.

·         Anna will delete the category of Legal and move its subcategory of Legal Assistance – Free to be listed as the main category with no subcategories.

·         All other categories will remain.

How can we list resources that are available in all areas of MN?

·         The need to list some resources as available in all parts of MN was discussed.

·         The recommendation of Josh Downham at Urban Planet to commission Urban Planet to create a new capability for the web site to be able to list resources as available in all parts of MN was accepted by the TF.

·         Anna will follow up with Matt Flory, Angie Graf, Jane Korn and Josh Downham to commission this project.

Announcements

·         Anna Reiter gave her resignation from the Task Force. A new representative from Medica will take her place.

·         The next Access to Information Task Force meeting will be set for late April.

·         Anna will follow up with Anna R to obtain contact information for new Medica representative to TF.

·         Anna will send email to all TF members to set next meeti.ng for late April
