She thanked team members for their input at previous meetings. For more details and a link to register visit http://www.mncanceralliance.org/Summit08.html
4. Speakers
a. Immunization Action Coalition: This regards the HPV vaccination, and potential action in Minnesota. Team members will check in with GayLynn.
b. Don Nochols: Don is available to speak on a cost analysis of cervical cancer and prevention. Other entities may plan an opportunity for this presentation in the 2nd half of 2008 that Pap Team members could attend.
c. Christine Baze: Christine is a cervical cancer survivor and musician. There may be an opportunity to incorporate one of her performances as part of launching some of our work down the road
5. Spanish Tool Kit: Emily and GayLynn have worked on a cervical cancer teaching kit in Spanish, and it was presented at an earlier meeting. Emily shared the updated presentation. Changes included downplaying the Gardasil logo while still mentioning the vaccine, updating the Sage eligibility information, and adding a CD with the information to the actual packet. Emily will incorporate the most up to date information for incidence in Minnesota shortly. The kit is expected to cost about $20 to reproduce, including the folder, CDs, and brochures. Feedback from the team included putting an English version of the lesson in the packet
The group discussed producing 20 kits for a trial run. Planned Parenthood may be able to test the kit via its Peer Educator Program. The Community Health Worker Peer Network may be another source for finding outreach workers using Spanish. Spanish speaking clinics may be contacted, including clinics outside the metro area. Team members will consult GayLynn and Pat about clinics and/or key staff to contact. Emily will put together an email that describes the kit and send it to Sara and Marie. The email will be a tool for team members to use when contacting the above groups. The UMN Cancer Center may have funding to duplicate the kit for this trial period. Emily will apply to show a poster describing the Spanish Tool Kit at the Summit.
6. Cervical Cancer Tool Kit Card: Katie and Makeisha gathered initial feedback.
Katie shared the card at a women’s health day event (education and screening). There were no issues with clarity or style. The card raised many questions from the women attending (good for generating dialogue). Women wanted a space for a phone number – either for the clinic where they should schedule an appointment or for the outreach person in case they had more questions.
Makeisha showed the card to a staff person from Open Cities in St. Paul. She liked the boldness and directness of the card. She felt women would use it as a reminder. She liked the size and the convenience of the card, as well as its simplicity. She also wanted a space for a phone number. She felt that “douche” was an old word that may need updating.
Makeisha also shared the card with people at Stair Step. They loved the cards and wanted more. They would like cards related to other cancers as well. They also thought a poster with the same content would be good in women’s bathrooms.
ACS was interested in participating in the project, perhaps by funding. Co-branding was mentioned. The Cancer Alliance Steering Committee also liked it.
Next Steps: Add a space on the card for a phone number, and make adjustments to spacing of the text overall. In April, determine the number to print for the pilot. Consult with Lisa about obtaining feedback in a useful format (focus groups/survey?). Officially pilot the card in May. Develop a rationale for printing many. By October, the team hopes to have a report describing how many have been printed, who is using the cards and how, and feedback received.
7. Next Meeting: April 29, 2008, 10:00 to 12:00. Snelling Office Park
Agenda Items:
De-Brief the Three Rivers event
De-Brief the Cancer Summit
Update on clinics/outreach workers to try out the Spanish Tool Kit
