1. Welcome/Introductions: Katie Maxfield got married and changed her name to Moyer
2. Three Rives Project: Makeisha reported that Screening Day, Thursday April 10th from 8:30 to 11:30 was a great success. 18 women received screening. All got individual breast health and cervical cancer education with Spanish, Vietnamese and Amriart interpreters and also a spa package. More than half of the women are from Minneapolis. Over all the event was very well organized, the library was used for intake and education and down stair clinic with 2 clinicians providing screening. Makeisha said: knowing the little details a bout the clinic’s staff and having gifts for every one is the key and with all the volunteers showed up as promised is very helpful.
Next screening event is June 9th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Open Cities Clinic for women > 40
3. Cancer Summit 2008 – April 22 : Liz reported about 250 people attended the summit with 200 preregistered. Most people were please with the new format, there are a few comments about communication.
· The survivor session, attendees got the most information from it
· The tobacco session were attended mostly by grant-funded groups
· Family history session there were lots of brainstorming
· Colorectal Cancer session was divided in 2 separate groups working on free screening day and policy , legislation on free colon cancer screening act
· Peer to peer working group with Roshan as a marvelous facilitator, great speakers. There were a lot of brainstorming, net working and learning from each others in the morning session. The PM session was less structured and people shared what they will focus on in the next 90 days post summit. Over all the session was very energetic, well attended with a good mix of community base and national organization members with the academic
· Dr.Carin Perkins presentation was great. She gave real numbers about MN, which was very helpful data
· All presentations are posted on MCA website
· Comments about future planning:
* Have specific projects that people are working on brought to the break out sessions
* Bring in non-cancer people to the summit
* Have a poster with name if awards winners
* Clarify the criteria for nomination such as MCA projects, community base activities….
4. Spanish Tool Kit: There are about $290 left over from the April 10th screening day that can be used to produce the kits. Marva might be able to help with addition funding if needed and possibly having more Pap cards printed
5. Cervical Cancer Tool Kit Card: The group review the comments from a person at PPH sent in by Kristin Neme, and decided to make some minor changes to the Pap card:
* Instead of “your menstrual cycle” to your period
* 2 days before DO NOT: ( remove “your Pap smear”)
* Move the text on the side with out the healthy women website up a little to provide a white space with Tel: for a phone number to be written in by the CHW or by the person giving out the card. Marva will try to work with it on her CD to avoid bothering our wonderful volunteer graphic designer. Thank you very much Marva
* May be it is time to work on the tool kit for provider to address the repeated questions about the card
