Digene: Heidi Martin |
Digene has developed the only FDA approved DNA high-risk panel HPV. If Liquid-based Pap collected, HPV testing can be done. If conventional Pap, woman can return to clinic for specimen collection for HPV.
Cost difference conventional & Liquid-based
Clinics concerned about setting up 2 levels of care, some women receiving Liquid-based, some conventional.
Do protocols exist to triage women to conventional or Liquid-based Paps
Opportunity for collaboration

Heidi reports that labs are raising the cost of conventional Pap to decrease use of conventional Pap.
Kit for HPV collection available from lab at no charge to clinic
Medicare reimburses $14.76 Liquid-based lab cost $25 – 28 & to patient ~ $50.
