A revised Cancer Plan Minnesota by 2011

Background: Cancer became the leading cause of death in Minnesota in 2001.  To address this disease, stakeholders across the state came together to create Cancer Plan Minnesota 2005-2010, the state’s first comprehensive cancer plan. The plan is a framework for action, including broad goals, measureable and time-specific objectives, and strategies to achieve the objectives. The objectives and strategies are designed to reduce the burden of cancer across the cancer continuum, from prevention and treatment to end-of-life care and survivorship.

Task: The Minnesota Cancer Alliance is revising Cancer Plan Minnesota in 2010. We intend to revise Cancer Plan Minnesota objectives and strategies, as well as update indicators. A revised Cancer Plan Minnesota will be released in 2011.  To achieve this, Chapter Review Groups will meet once to discuss chapter objectives and 1-2 times to discuss chapter strategies. After these meetings they will forward recommended objectives and strategies to the steering committee for consideration.  To see a timeline, click here.

Phase One: Taking place this Winter, phase one is a review of three chapters: Early Detection, Treatment, Quality of Life.  January meetings will review objectives and February meetings will review strategies.

Phase Two: Taking place in the Spring/Summer, phase two is a review of objectives and strategies from the Prevention, Data and Evaluation and Health Disparities chapters.

How you can help: For each chapter, you can provide feedback on objectives and strategies via online survey and/or you join the review group for that chapter.
